Hazardous waste items commonly result from automobile industries, medical centres & hospitals, chemical plants, oil refineries, electroplating companies and the like. Hazardous waste materials are usually grouped in 3 categories which are:
• F-list that includes waste materials that emanates from manufacturing and industrial operations.
• K-list consists of the waste items from specific industrial sectors like pesticide manufacturing or petroleum refining.
• P-list and U-list are sub lists that include commercial chemical type products which are hazardous only when they’re not handled and dumped properly.
Hazardous Waste Management
Many of the advance nations are struggling with the very similar issue of waste materials management and disposal. Disposal is often seen as a second alternative and infrequently included as in some cases disposing the waste would result in more problems. Waste Management means collection, processing, transportation and recycling where possible. This type of waste is produced by human activity and waste management is a highly effective technique of preventing the affect on the physical and mental well being of the people. There are various methods by which waste is managed which are highlighted below:
• Landfill
• Physical and Biological Reprocessing
• Incineration
• Avoidance and Reduction
• Energy Recovery
Landfill means burial of non reusable waste materials. If it’s appropriately designed and properly managed it could be a hygienic and even cheap way of discarding waste. Incineration refers to the burning up of waste materials. This is usually a high temperature waste treatment method and it is at times also known as thermal treatment. Waste is converted into gas, heat, steam and ash. It is a technique of waste materials disposal carried out on large and small scale. It helps in getting rid of solid, liquid and gaseous waste. Incineration is an efficient way to get rid of health-related waste although there are several with the viewpoint that medical waste when incinerated produces unwanted gas which are harmful. Recycling is actually a process where from the waste, the original useful resource is extracted or even the waste is reprocessed.
There are many ways and methods of recycling; such as the cola containers pose a large environmental annoyance so they are increasingly being recycled on a huge scale for getting something useful out of it. Biological Recycling describes waste materials which are organic and natural, that is, waste material that can decay and mix with nature, its source. Couple of examples of this kind of waste material is paper, food, dead foliage etc which can be subjected to natural recycling. The fuel which is produced along the way can be made use of to produce electrical energy. Energy Recovery usually means the energy that is within the waste elements must not be wasted, as the product is disposed so the entire process of Energy Recovery makes use of the latent energy as primary combustion fuel. This fuel can be utilized for cooking, heating up or as energy for other heat using processes. Probably the most important methods which are being put into practice now are avoidance and decrease in waste materials being produced. Used items are being reused and individuals are being discouraged to make use of disposable materials.
OCS is a waste management & recycling company. They provide residential, commercial garbage collection and recycling, OCS also offers data shredding services and roll off rentals in North & South Carolina.
